Gibson Field Service
Our story

Twenty years of keeping the season running.

Gibson Field Service grew from a workshop into a full contracting and field-service operation running from Emerald to Griffith. This is the work we do and the standard we hold to.

Chapter 01 · Capability

Built on John Deere master-tech expertise.

Gibson Field Service is built on John Deere master-technician expertise in the gear that matters most in this part of the country: cotton pickers and headers.

That depth sits behind every job, every machine, every season. Trade roots run back through a Vanderfield apprenticeship (Australia's largest John Deere dealer group) and years of hands-on John Deere master-technician work. It's the standard we hold the whole crew to.

The best way to know a machine is to pull it apart and put it back together. Then do it again.

Chapter 02 · Response

Same-day field response.

Gibson Field Service reaches remote breakdowns the same day, by air if that's what it takes. Cotton doesn't wait. A picker down at the wrong moment costs real money, fast.

That's where the "flying trouble-shooter" tag came from. Get to the machine, find the fault, get it running.

The reputation we built (the crew you call when no-one else can find the fault) is the foundation of the business.

Chapter 03 · Predictive maintenance

Fix what others can't. Then fix it before it breaks.

The track record is built on finding the faults others can't. A $1.5 million cotton picker with an intermittent electrical fault no-one could pin down: we found it. That is the kind of work the business is built on.

The bigger lesson came out of years of those jobs. Most breakdowns aren't bad luck. They are a part that was always going to fail, on a machine no-one had stripped down properly.

So we run on predictive maintenance: service by time, by life, and by component, on a mean-time-before-failure basis. Strip machines in the off-season, replace what's due, and they start the next one as new. Less downtime. Less drama. Less of the 3am phone call.

Service it before it breaks, and the season looks after itself.

Chapter 04 · Run like a business

A workshop business, run like a business.

Gibson Field Service was set up on a proper footing from the start, partnered with a certified practising accountant on the management side. That means clean books, real planning, and the discipline to grow without losing what made the work good in the first place.

From there the business grew into a full contracting and field-service operation running from Emerald to Griffith. Harvesting, cotton picking, repairs and bulk transport, with the same crew, the same standards, paddock to paddock.

Founded and led by Doug Gibson, a John Deere Master Technician.

What we stand on

Turn up. Keep it running. Bring the next bloke up with you.

Twenty years in, the philosophy hasn't changed. Turn up when you say you will. Keep the machine running through the window. Build the skill and the confidence of the operators around you. Day and night, if that's what the season needs.

That's the work. That's the business.
